Friday 18 June 2027
3 – 4pm Arrive at Cober Hill and meet in lounge.
4 pm Introduction to the centre and the watercolour/acrylic course.
Demonstration of materials needed and techniques.
4.30 pm Demonstration and practical exercises in the studio (working from images/handouts)
6.00pm Dinner
Saturday 19 June 2027
8.30 am Breakfast
10.00 am Painting outdoors:
An introduction to materials, brushes, paints and paper etc …..drawing
skills, negative shapes, eye level, horizon line….Sky and earth two main abstract
shapes practical demonstration and applying washes skies, clouds, trees, water.
Handouts and images provided by Anthony.
12.30 pm Break for lunch…
1.30 pm Outdoor painting around the centre with Anthony delivering initial demonstration.
If weather not permitting, indoors with exercises, working from images.
5.00pm Carry on painting in the studiol flower study using salt and cling film
6.00pm Dinner followed by coffee/wine in the lounge and a chance to relax.

8.30 am Breakfast
Vacate rooms.
10.00 am Portrait painting in watercolours what to look for using placement of the features working from an image.
Anthony will be providing a demonstration and one to one tuition.
12.30 pm Break for Sunday lunch.
1.30 pm Exhibition of work with constructive criticism and taking photographs.
Students are free to continue painting in the house or grounds departing by 2.30pm
Course Description
Painting in the studio at Cober Hill and around the grounds and the coastal area including tutor demonstrations and one to one tuition.
This course is for people who have had some experience using water based media and are looking to adapt a more spontaneous technique.
Artists must provide their own material. Places are limited. None painting partners are welcome.
Full board weekend rates apply from Friday to Sunday including Sunday lunch. Very comfortable venue with ample parking.
Materials needed for the weekend
- Bockingford 200 lb extra rough half imperial/quarter imperial or other good quality watercolour paper/pad
- Watercolour brushes mops, sable round.
- Cotman watercolours / Galeria acrylics or artists quality watercolours/acrylics if preferred
- Viridian Green
- Alizarin Crimson
- Ultramarine Blue
- Burnt Sienna
- Cadmium Yellow
- Cobalt Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Palette
- Water container
- Cling film
- Table salt
- Table or freestanding easel
- Drawing board
- Masking tape

- Waterproof pens
- A folding stool may come in handy if you want to sit down outdoors.
